Aru

After Aru had exhausted all the amorous words that he knew in his native language to sing Gabi's praises, he hoped he would be able to translate them into English so he could tell her all the things he'd told Aria about her.

His sister had patiently listened to him describing the way he and Gabi had met, and how he was convinced that their encounter had been fated, and how Gabi's connection to the clan of immortals couldn't have been coincidental either.

Oh, Aru. It gladdens my heart that you are so deeply in love, and that your connection to Gabriella opened up an opportunity for the resistance to establish a base on the forgotten planet, but I worry about your mate's perilous condition. Perhaps you should aid her transformation to ensure her survival.

Aru frowned. How can I aid her? I'm not a healer.

His sister laughed. You do not need to be a healer to aid one of the created species. Your blood is a potent medicine to them, and your mate can benefit from a small transfusion.

Aria had studied to become a healer before she had been offered a position in the service of the Supreme, so he didn't doubt her knowledge, but he had to wonder why none of the troopers tasked with monitoring the created species had been told about such an important remedy.

That should have been a crucial piece of information in the Watchers' training. Why have we not been told about our blood's curative abilities? Is it a closely guarded secret that only healers are privy to?

Most of the gods on Anumati will never encounter a member of the created species, so there is no need for this to be common knowledge, and the Watcher troops are supposed to watch and squash uprisings when needed, not to interact with the locals. The healers, on the other hand, are expected to be shipped off to distant colonies and help the ruling gods there. Can you think of a better way to gain the population's gratitude than to offer miraculous healings to its leaders? Mostly, it is achieved with our genetics-altering equipment, but in an emergency, when nothing else is available, our blood can be used instead.

That makes sense, but it would have been good to know, nonetheless. Aru opened his eyes and glanced at Gabi, who was still sleeping soundly. How much should I administer, and are you sure it is safe?

Very little, Aria said. The quantity should be the size of the tip of your little finger, and it is perfectly safe. A good spot to take the blood from is the bend of your arm, and to administer, use the vein on the back of your mate's hand. If you lick the spot first, it is not going to hurt when you put the needle in. Do you know where you can find a syringe?

I am in a well-equipped clinic. They have syringes here.

He had been updating Aria about the state of human progress ever
